McGowan for Maine

2 Olympians, a Maine comedian, and a former Maine governor all endorse McGowan

(HALLOWELL) – Patrick McGowan has received the endorsement to be the Democratic nominee for governor from four prominent Mainers.  Former Governor Joseph E. Brennan announced his support for McGowan Sunday night during a campaign rally in Portland.  On Monday, Olympic Gold Medalist Seth Wescott, Olympic Luger Julia Clukey, and Maine comedian Tim Sample all said that they are also supporting McGowan for governor.

“Pat’s knowledge of our state, its people, and its communities is unparalleled,” Gov. Brennan said in a letter. “Pat McGowan possesses a unique blend of small business experience, service, and overall knowledge of government that makes him the best candidate for the job.”

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Seth Wescott also endorsed McGowan, encouraging all Maine Democrats to support his candidacy.  Wescott worked with Pat when he was the state’s conservation commissioner to help launch the “Take it Outside” initiative in 2007.  The initiative was intended to encourage kids to get off the couch and become more familiar with healthy recreation in Maine’s outdoors.  Wescott is a Maine native who has won gold medals in the snowboard cross event at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics.

Another Olympic athlete from Maine endorsed McGowan on Monday.  Julia Clukey, who was born in Augusta, is a luger who has been competing since 2002.  She participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics despite knee surgery and a neck injury in late 2009.  In addition to endorsing McGowan’s candidacy, her family has also been helping on McGowan’s campaign.

Lastly, Maine comedian Tim Sample has endorsed McGowan’s candidacy as well.  A native of Fort Fairfield, Sample has authored books, produced recordings, and represented Maine on national television for more than three decades.  Tim Sample has been a supporter of McGowan’s in the past, and encourages Democrats to support him in the primary election on Tuesday.

“I am happy to have received the endorsement of Gov. Brennan, Seth Wescott, Julia Clukey and Tim Sample,” McGowan said. “Our momentum continues to strengthen as we head toward Election Day on Tuesday.  I look forward to seeing many of our supporters on Election Day as I visit polling places from Aroostook County to York County and many places in between.”
