Sportsmen and Women for McGowan

Pat McGowan was born in Bangor, raised in Somerset County, and has lived his entire life in Maine. Pat was raised with a great appreciation for Maine’s wilderness and outdoor recreation. He is the proud owner of several canoes and has used them in many Maine waterways including the Allagash and St. John Rivers on multiple occasions. Pat has hunted and fished in Maine every year for the past 40 years. He has seen what the region has to offer for outdoor recreation, and believes that there is nowhere better than Maine.

"My father Pat taught me at an early age how to hunt, fish, and enjoy the Maine Outdoors. He rarely made it out the door with a fishing pole or rifle without me pulling at his coat. For that, I am grateful. My father is the only candidate in this race that truly knows the issues of Maine sportsmen and women. If you want one of our own as the next Governor of Maine, cast your vote for my father, Patrick McGowan."
- Brady McGowan
From world-class offshore game and trout fishing in Maine’s rivers and streams to some of the best big game hunting in America; and from miles and miles of biking and ski trails to the most scenic and challenging hikes on the east coast including Mount Katahdin and the Bold Coast in Cutler, Pat McGowan has experienced Maine’s great outdoors in every corner of the state. He recognizes that it is an unparalleled treasure for Maine citizens and visitors.
Pat pledges to protect Maine’s lands for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. During Pat’s tenure as Maine’s Conservation Commissioner, the State of Maine placed 1 million acres of land in the public trust, ensuring it will remain available for public use for generations to come. Also during that his tenure, 900 new miles of snowmobile trails and 2500 new miles of ATV trails were added for public use throughout Maine. Pat also sponsored the Land for Maine’s Future bill while serving in the Legislature in the 1980s, which has helped to conserve nearly 600,000 acres since its inception.
As Governor, Pat will also protect the attention that deserves to be paid to Maine’s outdoors. Pat believes that Maine’s natural resource agencies should be kept separate from one another, allowing each agency to have a focused mission with specialized staff working with each constituency. Farmers, fishermen and sportsmen deserve specialized attention, and will continue to receive it with Pat McGowan serving as Governor.
Pat helped to launch the Landowner Relations Initiative with the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife while he was service as Conservation Commissioner. He fully supports it and believes in the inherent value of working together with sportsmen and landowners to settle access issues as they arise.
Pat McGowan has nearly two decades of natural resource-based public service in the Legislature and as Commissioner, and he has more than four decades of experience as an avid outdoorsman. He knows the lands and waters of this state from border to border and as Governor he will continue to advocate for the rights of sportsmen throughout the state.
Sportsmen who want a leader in the Blaine House who is one of their own, a leader who vows to protect sportsmen’s rights in Maine, and a leader who has a solid track record of preserving Maine lands for public use, should look to Pat McGowan as the right choice to be the next Governor of the State of Maine.
Dear Friend,
I have been the chairman of the Legislative Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for the past eight years as your State Senator and served on the committee for four years while I was a State Representative. I was also chair of the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee for two years. I have also known Pat McGowan for over twenty years. We've all been waiting for a governor that has had a hunting and fishing license all of his life. Here is our chance.
I want to state the facts and on the record his accomplishments as the
commissioner of conservation for the past seven years:
- During his tenure he added over one million acres of land in Maine for multiple purposes; hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and snowmobiling for all of us to use forever.
- He has been a champion for hunters and secured use of public land for one of my favorite activities, hunting white tail deer and moose.
- He added 900 miles of new snowmobile trails throughout Maine.
- He also added 2,500 miles of ATV trails throughout Maine.
These numbers are the facts and the record of Pat McGowan. He was born in Maine and loves our state. He is one of us. That is why I’m supporting him and hope that you’ll join me in supporting for him on Primary day, June 8th.
Sincerely,
Sen. Bruce S. Bryant
